Helloooo Humansss!!
Woah...it's been quite a long time! How have yall been?
Even thought it has been a while, this still seems so familiar. Thank you so much for coming back if you are reading this, and if you do follow my blog posts you would know that my posts are going to remain rather irregular until June 19th. If you know, you know ;)
Anyway, I'm here today to delve into a rather pressing issue and something many of us are victims of in the 21st century - social media.
Now, I know what you may be thinking: 'She's going to ramble on about the terrors of social media and how it makes people susceptible to all the negative things in the world..'
Well...I'm afraid...you're wrong...kind off..?
So not to fear, I will not eat your ear of, instead I will be acknowledging why it is important to keep social media usage in check.
The reason I chose to address this topic particularly now is because I'm starting to find that social media is the only thing that's keeping from doing most of my tasks these days. Just as I am about to embark on the most enlightening task of completing my english essay my hand decides to accidentally pick up my phone and coincidentally press on instagram, for example and then before I know it, I'm scrolling past thousands of reels that capture me in an endless loop of scrolling for eternity.
Now, I'm not saying scrolling on insta is a terrible thing, believe me a lot of news and ideas are expressed and delivered in interesting ways so there is an element of learning something new therefore expanding our knowledge, however I am trying emphasise that the things keeping you away from completing important tasks and that end up distracting you for hours worth of time, would not be ideal for a productive day.
And trust me, if this is you: you are just trying to have a productive day and you know you've got a deadline to meet but you're still lying on your bed and scrolling aimlessly so by the end of the day you've got a ton of work, a little bit of time, and no willingness to do the work with the bare minimum of energy so you end up feeling overwhelmed with stress, then maybe it's time for a change?
Instead, allocate time to use social media in your day and being strict with yourself on the usage of social media would probably benefit you gravely.
It's been a day since I've deleted my most used social media platforms and all I can say, is that I feel sort of empty, it's like a habit to turn my phone on and tap on social media, but now, there's nothing to entertain/distract me - in a way, it aided me to divert my focus onto what needs to be done, whether it be homework or just anything on my to-do list like going shopping or buying something I need for school.
I know, that is easier said than done, but give it a chance because since yesterday I have not been using social media (unless it's for uploading my blog posts) and I will definitely get back to you on how I feel and what changes it makes to my life next week (or most likely the week I decide to return)!
Remember, even though one of the main focuses of today was how social media distracts us from being productive, there are other factors too, like too much: reading, drawing, watching movies/kdramas etc..
The key idea is, everything should be controlled when it comes to usage and sticking to an organised time to relax and entertain yourself after completing your tasks which would be ideal.
Once again, thank you for coming back to listen to my little rant and become a part of my little experiment, let me know if you are going to or have tried something similar!
