Hellooooo Humannsss!!!
Today I wanted to talk about a term that might be commonly misunderstood or misinterpreted.
That term is being a feminist.
What is a feminist?
*GOOGLE DEFINITION INCOMING*
Feminism is an advocate of women's rights on the basis of the equality of the sexes; a person who supports feminism.
In other words, a feminist does not want to over-take the male species and aid other women to have better and higher rights but it is only an opportunity to help achieve equal rights for women just as men.
Recently, I have found that many in society question the capability of a girl or woman regularly as a pose to a man's capability.
For example, if a guy, independently travelled from India to the UK to pursue higher education or a career whilst taking care of their own finances society would not question it, but the minute a woman does the same, they start questioning whether it is possible and wonder how a woman could complete such a difficult task.
If a man had huge dreams and ambitions it would not be questioned but the minute a woman has the same or even bigger aspirations, they are looked down upon and questioned.
Why must they be questioned?
Anyway, if a man could complete all those tasks with no problem, so could a woman, after all, we are all human.
Many people might think feminists are toxic and just want women to be superior to men, but unfortunately, the whole point of feminism is to eliminate any gender bias towards the male species and to promote equality.
And I say this is unfortunate as it is disappointing that several movements and a specific term had to be created just to achieve equality between genders which should be a fundamental and a natural way of living.
It is stated in history that the first woman's rights movement took place in 1848 on July 13 which was the result of a small group of people doubting the unfair establishment of human lives.
Considering this problem was brought to light almost two centuries ago shows that this is a topic that is constantly belittled by many in society.
It is revolting that the issue of equal rights still prevails in society today, even though so much has been done and so many have tried to influence equal rights, there is still a lot of sexism that exists in our world.
Why?
- Due to ignorant people
- People who can't accept that men and women are equal to them
- People who are restless when a woman is not under a man's control
- People who think feminism is only supporting women and degrading men
- people who think whatever happens to a woman in society is due to their behaviour or dressing style
The list goes on..
To add on to the last point made in the list (not the last sentence), I saw the other day that a museum exhibition had been created to symbolically show society that it was not actually what women or girls wear that results in sexual harassment but in fact is just that some men are not taught how to respect a girl.
I mean, the victims assaulted were also as young as 12 or even 10 and your telling me that overalls was the reason?
Either way, why should women and girls refrain from wearing crop tops or v-neck dresses? It is their body so their choice. They can wear what they want to and what they are comfortable with.
This is where the idea of feminism comes in - so you're telling me, men are allowed to walk around shirtless in summer and not be judged because they're men but if a woman or girl wore a short dress then they are "asking for it".
Why cannot they freely wear whatever they want to. Why can they not come back home late at night without being aware of safety? Why cannot they be themselves and enjoy their freedom at anytime of the day wearing what they want to?
I really would love to see a society where a girl could roam around freely at night or day without having to fear that their decision of working an extra hour to make a better living might lead to devastating consequences.
With so many external factors that go into living independently for women, being looked down upon after fighting from the moment they wake up to the moment they reach home including diminishing equality in workplaces or society, evokes the necessity of feminism and spreading the idea.
Don't get the wrong idea of feminists, as it is only fair to live in a world where both sexes and all genders get an equal go at life.

I feel like this bias has dominated many generations, feminism is portrayed in a bad light in most of society to make it seem like a plot against men but it really isn't . More than anything its a voice of reason and more importantly, equality.
However we can only hope it improves in the future and that the chasm, that is the pay gap and many other unfair experiences are not experienced by the women even then. That the world that includes the future generation of men, sons, brothers and children (that we all have a hand in raising) do not grow up only to take inspiration from the past and carry on...
