The Magic of Festivals

Hellllooooooo Humansssss!!

I have two apologies to make this week...

No. 1 Sorry about the late upload

No. 2 Sorry about the really bad quality of writing last week.. It was my birthday so I was busy all morning and then people came over in the evening too and it sort of got really tiring by the time everyone left. I also developed a headache and fell quite sick.... So yeah a lot happened...

Anyway, the important thing is I am back! (A little late but you still here).

Yesterday was an important festival celebrated by Hindus with different customs they follow depending on which area of India they come from.

These 9 days that are auspicious to us is widely known as Navarathri.

I came from a state in Hyderabad called Telangana where we celebrate a festival called Bathukamma which is essentially a festival of flowers.

This festival is celebrated for the well being of women and girls and also welcomes a goddess to celebrate with us and keep us safe. Usually the women dance around all the flowers in a circle for hours and hours wishing good health.

We make mountains of flower sculptures, pray and then leave the flowers in some water... This tradition used to be carried out for a scientific reason too. There used to be several viruses and diseases at the time and several of them were caused due to the dirty water of the lakes so by adding wild flowers it helped to purify the water.

A lot of beliefs and traditions Hindus follow also have links to scientific reasons and are not just plain beliefs and the bonus of these traditions are that we get to see friends and family, celebrate have food and have fun dancing.

Wishing you a happy Navarathri.
