Living Up to Expectations

Hellloooo Humanss!!

Today I wanted to talk about a topic recommended by my friend Sanvee; living up to expectations.

Thank you so much for the recommendation by the way!

Many of us pressure ourselves into taking control and trying to handle several tasks at once even though they do not have to be done immediately.

What I mean by that is, we tend to think of everything we want to do and accomplish and try to finish it as soon as possible, so we attempt to cram everything we want to do into one day which is unfortunately impossible in an ideal world.

It however is not impossible to complete all of those tasks, for example let's say you have to complete 5 assignments, write two essays and complete a few mini projects and you want to get them done all in one day.

There are two negative issues that come out of this idea.

1) You get over-worked and stressed with all the workload and might resort to giving up which would leave you with a bad and defeated feeling about yourself which will ultimately lead to a fall in self-confidence.

or

2) You some how manage to complete all of the tasks but don't have this proud feeling of accomplishment due to your work not being up to your regular standards but you don't want to re-do anything because you are way too exhausted and then when you get a lower grade for one of your essays that does not truly reflect your capability, you might also see a decline is self-confidence.

Instead, why not space out your work load and take time because learning and working in detail with high quality will most likely help you out more, even if there is a deadline you need to meet, the greatest issue that would come out of that is that you won't make it on time, but this problem is only temporary.

In both scenarios a decline of self-confidence is inevitable and self-confidence is one of the first things you need to survive in this fast-forward world of boundless expectations. And this hit to self-confidence is not temporary.

Constantly, trying to live up to a high set of expectations can be exhausting, and wanting to live up to those expectations is not crazy but what is crazy of you is assuming that the world actually cares whether you live up to those expectations or not.

I have been in several circumstances where people expect something of me and perhaps it didn't turn out that way, but then I might astonish them from a different aspect which they did not see coming.

What I am trying to say is that there's no fun in constantly being that star student or the star image that you have created for yourself but instead have fun and falter, fall and get up and be more than what was expected of you - they might laugh at how you fail to meet their expectations now, but then leave them speechless when you are successful.

When people place expectations on you, such as being smart or being talented, they place down limitations for you, they restrict you, and you might end up falling into that trap.

If someone said to me that I was very smart and if I had worked continuously to live up to that expectation, I would not have explored anything else such as performing arts or any creative talent I behold.

So, don't let society's expectations and beliefs hold you back, because it is high time you set your own expectations and goals (no matter how big or small they are) and you beat them!

Show people you are so much more than they EXPECT you to be.

P.S. I am sorry for the late post, I actually did not realise it was Sunday - it's half-term so my timings and days are getting mixed up (Please tell me this is not just me!). XD

See you next week on time...
