A stretch of the truth of beauty

Helllloooooo Humansss!

How are you doing?

So, you have probably noticed the rather extensive title, and as the title hints at, I will be exploring the concept of beauty in today's blog.

Now, I understand that beauty is a rather vast topic with a lot of areas that we could explore and touch upon, but today, I will be tackling 'beauty standards in society'.

Let's begin!

Firstly, what is the definition of beauty?

Well, according to google, beauty is: a combination of qualities, such as shape, colour, or form, that pleases the aesthetic senses, especially the sight.

If you have noticed, all of the things mentioned above to define beauty are to do with the appearance of something, but what about people who are blind?

I've watched a few videos (links to them at the bottom) and I've noticed, that if not one thing, people associate beauty with the other, for example scent, touch and how they sound when they speak.

For example do they speak gently or loudly with excitement.

But, one thing that isn't clear with my above example, is which one defines beauty..?

Some find people who are loud and lively beautiful whereas others find calm and quiet people's persona beautiful.

So, what I am trying to say is that, beauty is very much dependent on people's opinions.

If we take a step back and let what I said be taken in for a second..

Now, think about all the beauty standards we have in the world, some say being fair-skinned is beautiful, some say being tanned is beautiful, some say being short and curvy is beautiful, some say being slender and tall is beautiful, some say having long hair is beautiful, some say having short hair is beautiful, some say wearing dresses is beautiful, some say wearing shorts is beautiful...

I could go on and on - But I won't.

Because the point is, the idea of beauty itself is a very perceptive and materialistic idea and there is no way everyone would be able to agree with one ideal standard of beauty.

A lot of young people are unfortunately caught amidst societies idea of beauty and let the pressure and stress of trying to be perfect in appearance weigh down on them, but what they don't understand is that the standard of beauty is constantly changing and contradicting the previous standards of beauty.

You will see yourself as a beautiful person when you learn to accept yourself, your personality, your looks, and once you learn to do all of these things, the inner peace and satisfaction you get is all the confidence you need to see the beauty within yourself.

So don't let petty 'beauty standards' define you as a person or take over your life, as real beauty is within, you just need to learn to embrace that beauty with all your heart..

I know, this was a very complex topic that I chose to write about, but I believe it is important to address this idea of beauty standards in society and mainly on social media due to the fact that the idea of perfection and beauty takes a massive toll on people's self-confidence and mental health.

I hope you learn to recognise the real beauty in you, because if you need a reminder today, then: You are beautiful!
